The engineers of American company Second Sight found the opportunity to help people, which are suffering from retinitis pigmentosa. The result of such disease is blindness, because the retina became degraded and would not receptive to the light. The human brain saw the images through optic nerve, and it is not damage. This nerve gives the possibility to be using by implanted devices. 

The experts called his invention «bionic eye». What about a reality, this is a whole complex not an one item. The images are created by digital camera, which situated in glasses. The video is in connection with digital camera and it dispatches impulses to receiver in outside of eye.

There are electrodes in connection with receiver by thinnest cable inside, in the area of retina. The electrodes are creating picture according to camera image and sending it to the brain by optic nerve. As a result the human can to see something. In premier devices were 16 electrodes. According to this the picture consisted of 16 points. But it let to difference the light one from dark one. Now the «bionic eye» is equipped by 60 electrodes. Such one, for example, was implanted to the 73-year-old patient of Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, he become blind 30 years ago and lived in whole darkness. As he said, he is seeing lines on the road and distinguishing colors of socks. 

The woman from USA (Linda Moorfoot) had to watch TV after operation. This is a miracle for the absolutely blind people. The device is working through battery with living terms about half a year“. The results of experiments gives the hope – said the eyes surgeon Lindon la Crous- I think, that we had made a progress in the area of treatment blinds. The success of new technology will depend from the continuous of working” .

The future plans of doctors and engineers are «eyes» with 1000 electrodes. It will let  to distinguish between faces.
